On 20/07/2022, students from III B.Sc.Psychology was taken to an art exhibition which was organised by the Schizophrenia Research Foundation (India) - SCARF at the Amethyst restaurant, Royapettah, Chennai. The theme of the exhibition was “Art and Mental health” which showcased the creative skills of people with mental health issues. This initiative was taken to introduce the students to the creative side of the people who suffer from mental health problems. The art displayed at the exhibition was a culmination of beautiful pieces. Each painting had a deeper meaning than what it portrayed at first glance. The event organisers and guides were present at all times with the students and explained each art piece to the students. The displays were on sale so if the student was interested she was allowed to buy. Lastly, at the end of the tour, the students were given small sheets of paper and crayons and were asked to stick their own art so that others who were interested could take them. Overall it was a wonderful experience where the students got the opportunity to see the beautiful creative side of these patients.
Objectives:
To introduce students to the talents of people with mental issues
To understand the creative part of the person with intellectual disabilities
Outcomes:
At the end of the event, students were able to understand
How support system help to exhibit talents despite the challenges in people with intellectual disabilities
The creative side of the mentally affected people
Self-art work done by CTTE students there was allowed to be sold as a token of individual support to the mental health community

On the occasion of World Mental Health Day 10/10/2022, the department of psychology organised a youth talk session for the final year students of the C.T.T.E college. The guest speaker for the session was Ms Varsha Rajabaskar, Co-founder, Managing Director and Educator at Ulavisai. The topic of the session was ‘Mental health and its components’. The session was interactive and engaging, Ma’am spoke about mental health and well-being in general, ways to look after our mental health, and how the media and the world affect our mental state as well. Ma’am used anecdotes from her life to help us understand more. The entire session was very informative and interesting where ma’am held everyone’s attention throughout.

The Department of Psychology organizes and participates in most of the seminars, workshops, conferences and lectures. On 30.08.2022 a guest lecture was organized by the Department of Psychology on “Criminal Psychology” and the guest lecturer was Mr Ujwalraj. R is working as an assistant professor at Sree Muthukumaraswamy College, kodungaiyur. This was a two-day guest lecture which had two sessions of two hours a day.
Objectives:
To make students know about a new branch of psychology and its related field concepts related to abnormal psychology and criminology case studies related to criminals History, theories of criminology
Outcome:
Students were familiar with Criminology and its history Scope of Criminology Linkage between abnormal psychology and criminology Brain mechanism of psychopaths

On account of teachers day celebration CTTE college for women conducted various programmes on 5th September 2022. The chief guest of the programme was our beloved principal DR. S Sridevi. The programme begin with the prayer song. The welcome speech was given by the students secretary. The students conducted lots of games to the Teachers like musical chair etc. The students offered the
saplings to the beloved Teachers. The entire students surprised the whole Teachers with big cake. The programme can to a end with the Vote of thanks and prayer song. On the whole the entire event turned out to be grand and successful one. The first year students of psychology department celebrated the teachers day along with the teachers. The chief guest was our beloved HOD. MRS. ALIMA ZEHRA. students surprised HOD and Assistant Professor with rainbow cake. We saved the beautiful memories with a group photo. On the whole the entire Celebration turned out to be grand and successful one.

On 07/09/2022 ( Wednesday) a guest lecture was organised by the Psychology department for the students of III B.Sc.Psychology. The guest lecture was on the topic “Mental Status Examination (MSE)”. The guest lecturer of the day was Ms. Nila. The speaker started off the session with an icebreaker and got to know the names of the students. With the help of a PowerPoint Presentation the lecturer spoke about the Mental Status Examination which is an assessment of current mental capacity through evaluation of general appearance, behaviour, any unusual or bizarre beliefs and perceptions, mood, and all aspects of cognition, we learnt the five categories of MSE, which are : (1) General Appearance, (2) Emotions, (3) Thoughts, (4) Cognition, (5) Judgment and Insight. The five categories were further explained in detail by the lecturer. The session was very interactive where the speaker involved and engaged us throughout. Onam Celebration was held on 7th September 2022 at CTTE College for Women, Onam is a festival celebrated by Malaualis in Rerala or in any other part of the world to mark the homecoming of the Great King Mahabali. It is also said to mark the harvest season for Kerala. On this occasion, students from the department of Psychology Contributed their part to the celebration by indulging in various performances such as dance, and song and the club coordinators from the department also contributed their share in comparing & organizing the event.

On 23/09/2022 (Friday ) a guest lecture was organised by the Psychology department for the students of III B.Sc.Psychology. The guest lecture was on the topic “Neurodevelopmental Disorders ”. The guest lecturer of the day was Ms.Datchyaayane, Asst. professor, department of Psychology, Dr. MGR Janaki College of Arts and Science for women, Chennai. The session was an informative and engaging discussion which was very interactive. The guest speaker made use of a PowerPoint presentation and spoke about disorders such as ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Intellectual Disability and other disorders as well. The students got to know the DSM criteria for these disorders, the causal factors as well as treatments for them. There was a 10 minute break in between for the students to relax. One speciality of this session was that the speaker gave movie examples for a better understanding of the students. Lastly, the lecture
ended with a feedback session where the speaker collected written feedback from the students.

On 27th September 2022 an oath-taking program was held where the students summoned that they would go along with the college rules and avoid unnecessary usage of mobile phones during college hours. Bhumi, a large independent youth volunteer non-profit organisation was invited to CTTE College For Women to introduce the students to make sustainable use of available resources. The resource person introduced himself and the idea of sustainable development and usage, including the harm of fast fashion. Students/volunteers had been requested to bring a part of T-shirts along with scissors. The volunteers were given detailed instructions to make a bag out of the T-shirt. The Event was informative, useful and extremely fun. They also educated the students about their volunteering work and invited them to their organisation if interested.

On October 1st 2022 Student volunteers from CTTE College, Department of Psychology participated in the 153rd birth anniversary celebration of Mahatma Gandhi which was held in Egmore Museum. School students dressed themselves as Gandhi, and many dance programs and singing programs were held. Nearly 23 students from the department volunteered and contributed their part in the event.

On 17/10/2022 (Monday) the Department of Psychology collaborated with the team of India Turns Pink an organization that works for ‘breast cancer awareness’. As the month of October is recognised as breast cancer awareness month, The team of ITP had organized a series of events for the entire month and one such event was the ‘Pink Saree Walk’. The students from the Department of Psychology participated in this ramp walk event which took place at the Chennai Airport. It was a fun event where the students were asked to wear pink sarees and be in attendance at the airport. There the students were asked to do a ramp walk and at the end of the event, participation certificates were given to the students. The students overall had a great time participating in the event which was so meaningful and which was conducted for such an important cause.

Right to Information in India has emerged as the most powerful tool in the hands of the common man. It provides the opportunity to seek accountability from the government. It strengthens Indian Democracy by curbing corrupt practices and giving back power to the citizens. Awareness about rights would empower the individual and free from getting exploited by others. Being conscious of your rights may give you the power to fight against any injustice meted out to you at home, at the workplace, or in society. The awareness program on the Right to Information and Women’s rights was conducted on 22nd December 2022 by the Department of Psychology, CTTE College for Women & Student Council in collaboration with Innerwheel Club of Chennai Vriksham & Chennai Adyar. Students from various departments of the college participated. The agenda is to create awareness among young college students about the rights of every individual to access information needed, how to use them wisely, challenges the individual faces and how to overcome them. The process of how to approach the various departments of Government to get information regarding the issue was explained in steps. Students were taken through letter writing format to receive information regarding any environment as well as personal issues. They were exposed to the ‘Namma Chennai’ app and the process of working. The session was filled with sharing personal experiences and case studies. The benefits of raising questions to get information and how raising questions would save the tax of the public were well explained by the resource person. The speaker was encouraging, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic throughout the session. The session was beneficial and eye-opening for the students.
