Valedictory function of English Department Association ELLITA was held on March 04, 2020. Valedictory address was given by Mrs. Beena Thomas, Head, Department of English. Dalia Bernadette Lazaro of I B.Com A&F performed a Dramatic Collage on Othello and Macbeth. Certificates were distributed to ELLITA competition winners. Students who completed EDGE ON and EDGE ON PLUS along with NPTEL courses also received their certificates during the function. The Valedictory function was followed by Department Farewell for our Principal Dr. Hanifa Ghosh.

Unnat Abhiyan
The Post Graduate & Research Department of English, Chevalier T. Thomas Elizabeth College for Women under the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan program, visited the village Thirukandalam in Thiruvallur district on 28, Feb 2020. The student volunteers reinforced the concept by singing a song on hygiene. Refreshment and a stationery kit was distributed to all the students.
An online English proficiency test Communication Challenge 2020 for the advanced learners in I & II General English classes was conducted in collaboration with STEP PLUS from The Hindu Group on 21 January. 55 student from Part II foundation English successefully completed the test with maximum score of 9.2 out of 12.

Ellita 2019-20 was conducted as a part of Festevillta - Department Association activities for the year 2018-19. What’s the Good Word?, Performance Poetry, Just a Minute,Enact a Scene, and Debate competitions were conducted. On 18 February 2020, Literary Quiz was conducted for the B.A. and M.A. (English) students.

II B.A. (English) students visited SRCM Heartfulness Meditation Centre, Manapakkam, on 02 Feb. 2020. The meditation centre enabled the students to learn focus and cultivate inner strengths and talents. The students revealed that there was calm, relaxation, focus after the 25 minute meditation session.
The students donated Herbal plants (Tulasi, Pirandai, Thoodhuvallai, Karpuravalli, Arugampul, and Nilavembu) to the Department to create environmental impact of herbal medicine and a greener environment.

32 final year UG students of the Department of English, escorted by Dr. Fahamida Begum and Mrs. Chris Lorraine Melvina, went on a tour to MUNNAR – ATHIRAPALLI from 25th January 2020 to 28th January 2020. The students visited Attukal, Mattupetty, Echo Point, Tea Estate, Blossom international park, and athirapalli water falls. The climate was good, and the students enjoyed the trip.

Pongal celebration was organised in our college on January 10, 2020. Students from different Departments showcased their talents by presenting a typical South-Indian setting with beautiful decorations. III B.A. and II M.A. students wore traditional saris and antique jewellery. They prepared sweet Pongal and distributed to all the teachers. The students enjoyed well during the programme. III B.A. English students won the first place for preparing sweet Pongal.

A One Day Workshop on Social Media: Empowerment and Ethical Dilemmas was organised by the Department of English in collaboration with Chennai Literary Association as part of 7th edition of Chennai Literary Festival (CLF) on January 09, 2020. Mr. Leo Samuel, Assistant Professor, Department of Journalism and Communication, University of Madras served as the resource person. 250 members benefitted from this workshop.

The Post-Graduate and Research Department of English organised the Students’ Conference on “South Asian Women Writers” for the UG and PG students from colleges around the city was conducted on 12 December 2019. The conference was launched by the Head, Department of English, Mrs. Beena Thomas, and the Correspondent Mr. L. Palamalai, I.A.S (Retd.) offered his felicitations. The Keynote address was delivered by Dr. Hanifa Ghosh, Professor of English and Principal, C.T.T.E. College.
As a part of Chennai Literary Festival (CLF), various competitions were conducted on December 07, 2019, in Ethiraj College for Women, Chennai. Nearly 99 students from different departments of our college participated in the competitions and won prizes.

The Storytelling Workshop on Aboriginal Australian Literature was conducted on 15 October, 2019 at the University of Madras. The workshop was organised by the Post Graduate & amp; Research Department of English in collaboration with the Australian Consulate. The General Secretary, Mr. Andrew Collister, Larry Walsh, an elderly aboriginal storyteller and Ron Murray, a Didgeridoo Aboriginal musical instrument player were the guests of the day.

Our Students along with the school “The Mission to the Blind” observed the White Cane Day on 15 October 2019, to create an awareness about white cane by taking the MTB Students for a walk in the neighbourhood.

The PG and Research Department of English and Maryland library organized a book launch of Dr. Hanifa Ghosh, Principal, C.T.T.E College, Perambur, Chennai 11 on July 22, 2019. The book titled Writing India in the Vernacular and in English is a comprehensive comparative study of short stories written in English and in translations by Indian Women Writers.
