Meet the Department Head: Mr.Simoes
What made you decide to teach: To improve the carpentry program for better job placement and career success
How long have you been in the carpentry business: Graduated in 1977 and has been in the field ever since: A total of 44 years and has been an entrepreneur for 20 years. 18 years teaching 11 at Bullard Haven, 2 years Oliver Wilcut, 6 years in Abbott tech as a department head.
What made him choose Abbott Tech is that he had graduated from this school.
What do you like about Abbott Tech? - He was born and raised in Danbury, then left Danbury when he was 28 and went to work for a general contractor in oxford. It has been a place where he felt comfortable because he had graduated from the school.
Mr.Simoes loves carpentry because the work is tangible and what we do is a craftsmanship. We sculpt the wood, make the furniture and make/install Cabinets. He says our work is what impresses the customer, and he loves the satisfaction of seeing your own work and being able to revisit your work.
His favorite holiday is the Fourth of July. His favorite project that he worked on was when he made blueprints and built his second home with the help of his employees. He loved building his second home because it was his and unique to him.
