Welcome! Henry Abbott Tech is one of seventeen technical high schools run by the state of Connecticut. Upon graduation students will receive both an academic & trade diploma! The carpentry program here at Abbott Tech is unlike the wood-shop programs found in local high schools. Our program is run in a state of the art facility designed to teach our students woodworking in both cabinet, stair, and furniture building. Hands on lessons are aligned with rigorous curriculum and our program is linked to local industry to develop and train students for career placement in a variety of trade areas. In addition to utilizing these skills on a daily basis in the shop, upperclassmen are bused out to off campus production sites that teach them residential construction from concrete work to finish carpentry and everything in between. All students are eligible for our paid Work Based Learning (WBL) program while in school as 11th & 12th graders. Through WBL, Abbott Tech graduates are placed in the trade with professional contractors and business owners to begin their career in carpentry. It all begins with our phase 1, 2 exploratory program. All freshman participate in phase 1 by working in each shop for 2 days being introduced to the various trades available. Upon completion of the 2 day students select 3 shops to return to for a 4 day more invasive program. Upon completion of the 4 day students request their 1st 2nd and 3rd choice and are then placed in that shop based on their grades completed in the 2 and 4 day program. All career teachers are skilled professionals and explars in their field trained to prepare students for a successful career. Please view the class of your choice by clicking on the date listed at the top of this page. You will find various projects that are being completed during the school year. Our program is often hired by actual clients in the community allowing students the opportunity to work on real - world professional skills in building cabinets, entertainment centers, stairs, composite sundecks, framing, roofing, window and door installation, siding both wood and vinyl, flooring, interior trim, and more. This provides students the ability to practice working and communicating with clients in addition to building wood working skills. Please take the time to read the comments and view the pictures provided by the students who have participated in our 4 year program at Henry Abbott tech high school. Thank you!
