Seventh Grade ELA

Seventh grade ELA works in conjunction with your 7^th grade Reading course with Mrs. Feathers. In class we will work to build upon skills in reading, writing, speaking and listening that students acquired in previous years; however, seventh grade focuses on more complex texts, both in language and theme. Class time will be spent learning strategies to strengthen reading comprehension skills. Additionally, this class strives to enhance understanding of the form and function of writing, through the study of craft, style, and variety and by emphasizing writing that responds to literature by providing examples to develop a point of view. Students will also work on the elements of persuasive writing and the strategies for building scholarly and defendable arguments.

To strengthen our writing, we will work on grammar, mechanics, and usage skills in writing and practice improving our writing by developing grade-appropriate understanding of paragraph and essay structure.
