Honors 11th Grade American Literature:
Rationale and Expectations
This Honors 11th Course is differentiated from Academic English by depth of study rather than by
quantity of materials covered.
The course will be conducted in a manner that challenges the students to produce, requires them to think critically, and encourages them to take some initiative in determining the direction of the course.
This course places a premium on student writing and the intellectual skills that can be developed and honed thereby. Therefore, honors students are expected to produce significant writing in various forms and genres. The intent of a writing requirement is to give students an opportunity to collect, generate, and refine their thoughts on a given subject and to produce polished communications.
All Honors Students Will Be Expected To:
1. Complete reading assignments outside of class
2. Complete all homework assignments
3. Maintain a passing grade
4. Discuss and debate in a mature and respectful manner
5. Manage time effectively
6. Participate!
7. Schedule conference time with Mrs. Salem for writing assignments, tutoring, extra notes, etc.
8. Produce quality work that is free from minor grammatical errors
9. Refrain from Plagiarizing at all times
10. Ask for help!
