My experience with Engineering for All began in the fall of 2014. Over the past three years I have enjoyed working with Hofstra University and ITEEA as part of the water unit development team. This curriculum gives students a unique opportunity to learn about STEM and the informed design process while being able to use engineering as a social good. My time teaching this curriculum, I have been very impressed to see students have empathy towards others way of life, and want to make a difference. EFA gives students the tools and knowledge to make a difference by going through knowledge and skill builders. After students have completed these KSB’s they are given a Grand Design challenge. In the video below you will see students presenting their solution to the challenge. EFA is now available for all teachers through ITEEA as part of their EBD curriculum. https://www.iteea.org/
EfA Project
The Engineering for All Project, funded by the National Science Foundation, is creating, testing, and revising two-six week prototypical modules for middle school technology education classes that are situated in the important social contexts of food and water. The modules employ engineering design as the core pedagogy and integrate content and practices from the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and the Standards for Technological Literacy (STL).
