The Praxis Examination in Speech-Language Pathology is a national examination used to assess the knowledge and skills necessary for entry-level professional practice. Successful completion of the Praxis is required for the ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC-SLP) and may also be required for state licensure.
Students are strongly encouraged to take the Praxis during the semester prior to their final semester in the graduate program. By this point, students have completed the majority of their academic coursework and clinical training, providing a strong foundation for the examination while allowing sufficient time to receive scores and address any need for retesting before graduation.
Students should plan ahead by reviewing current Praxis requirements, registration procedures, testing dates, and score-reporting requirements. Preparation should include reviewing content across the full scope of SLP practice rather than focusing exclusively on a student's preferred clinical area.
Recommended Timeline: Take the Praxis during the semester immediately preceding your final semester of graduate study.

Students have access to Praxis study and preparation books through the SLP Materials Library. These resources are available for checkout for free and can be used to supplement course materials, online study resources, and practice examinations.
Students are encouraged to check out materials early and incorporate them into their study plan during the semester prior to taking the Praxis.
