Images are of 0.5m x 0.5m quadrats spaced 2 meters apart along 30m transects. Transects are located haphazardly within the study site, and extend from the waterline perpendicular to the shore, with the distance from the water recorded for each quadrat (along with tide height and slope, this can be used to estimate elevation relative to MLLW). Depending on the tide level, transects begin in either the low or mid-intertidal, and extend across the mid-intertidal.
Transects were taken at two sites near Point Pinos on the Monterey Peninsula. Acropolis Street is on a shoreline facing NE into the Monterey Bay. The site has an average slope of ~5°. The Great Tidepool is in a shallow cove facing SW into the Pacific Ocean. It has an average slope of ~3°.
