The 2026 Association for Language Awareness (ALA) conference recognizes the importance of supporting emerging scholars and student researchers in presenting their work and engaging in professional exchange. Limited stipends are available to assist with conference-related expenses for individuals who demonstrate financial need and have been accepted to present at the conference.
Opportunities
There are two sources of stipend opportunities:
1. The Association for Language Awareness international may issue stipends to attend the International Conference through ALA membership. Limited stipends available
The Association for Language Awareness is offering limited stipends, of a maximum of £800 or equivalent, to enable participants to present a paper at the conference. Members whose proposals have been accepted may apply for a stipend in ONE of three categories below:
Long-term ALA members (in continuous membership for at least 5 years, i.e. since 2020)
Student members, including PhD students (students must still not have graduated until after the conference, and proof of current student status should be attached to the email application)
Members resident who reside in Low GDP countries. Residence will be determined by the mailing address currently recorded in the ALA membership list. languageaware@gmail.com
2. Conference Committee ALA 2026 Registration Stipends. The ALA 2026 conference committee may issue registration compensation based on need. ala.2026.gage@gmail.com
For either type of stipend, email the above point of contact with the following information. Applicants must:
Have an accepted presentation for the 2026 ALA conference.
Demonstrate financial need and a clear benefit from attending the event.
3. Award Basis
Stipends are competitive and awarded based on:
Availability of funds
Demonstrated financial need
Quality and relevance of the accepted proposal
4. Award Amounts
Stipends vary in amounts and may cover all or a portion of the conference costs
Stipend amounts are awarded based on the criteria above (i.e., Award Basis), not on an applicant's total conference costs
5. Application Requirements
To apply, email the following materials with the subject line: “Conference Stipend Application – [Your Full Name]”
Please include the following in a single email:
Full name and institutional affiliation
Degree program (with documentation) and expected graduation date/recent graduation date, if applicable.
Title of accepted presentation
A brief statement (200–300 words) describing:
Your academic or professional goals
The importance of attending this conference
Your financial need and how this grant would support your participation
A copy of your Email/Letter of Acceptance
Optional: A brief statement of support from a faculty advisor or mentor
6. Deadline and Notification
Application Deadline: February 1, 2026
Notification of Award: February 28, 2026
Recipients will be notified by email and may be asked to submit proof of travel or conference participation before receiving funds via a bank transfer/money transfer app
7. Important Notes
Funding amounts vary each year depending on available resources.
Not all applicants will receive funding.
Awards are intended to offset conference costs and are not intended to cover full expenses.
