FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

When will registration be available?

October 1, 2024, through January 31, 2025

What is the registration deadline?

All registration forms must be received in-house or postmarked by January 31, 2025.  Any registration form received after January 31, 2025, will NOT be entered in the lottery but will be added, in the order received, to the end of the appropriate grade level wait list generated by the lottery.

Do I have to be a resident of North Carolina to register for the lottery?

Yes. The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction, Division of Charter Schools, mandates that applications from out-of-state residents are not eligible for admission unless proof of North Carolina residency can be provided by the registration deadline of January 31.

How old does my child need to be to register for Kindergarten?

A child must be five years old on or before August 31, 2025, to enroll as a Kindergarten student.

How do I register my child(ren) for the Lottery?

You can submit a registration form online (preferred) by clicking on the Enrolling page of our website. A paper copy is also available if preferred. Paper copies of the Enrollment Application Form for the 2025-26 School Year, may be picked up at our High School or K-7 Campus starting October 1, 2024.

How do I know if my registration form has been received?

You will receive an email confirmation shortly after submission. PLEASE FLAG THIS EMAIL FOR FUTURE REFERENCE.  If you do not receive this email confirmation after you submit your registration form(s), then your registration did not go through and your child will not be run through the lottery. YOU are responsible for ensuring you receive the confirmation email. On a few occasions, registrants have found their email confirmation in their SPAM/Junk folder.

If I mail, drop off, scan/email, or fax in a paper registration form, what happens?

We will manually enter your registration information into our lottery database. We will email you the confirmation from PowerSchool Enrollment. PLEASE RECORD THIS REGISTRATION EMAIL CONFIRMATION.

I have multiple birth siblings (twins, triplets, etc.), how does that work?

If multiple birth siblings apply for admission to a charter school and a lottery is needed under G.S. 115C-238.29F(g)(6), the charter school shall enter one surname into the lottery to represent all of the multiple-birth siblings. If the surname of the multiple-birth siblings is selected on the day of the lottery, then all of the multiple-birth siblings shall be admitted.  To learn more, please click here.

Do I have to attend or view an Open House presentation?

We strongly suggest you attend or view an Open House presentation so that you are prepared to accept or decline the slot if offered at any point, especially if a slot is offered to you in August when you will have a short window to decide. Our school philosophy is amazing and unique but it is not for everyone.  We feel it’s important for all our new families to have an opportunity to hear about CSD to decide if our school’s philosophy and values align with that of your family.  We are unable to offer private tours, so if you would like to see the school in person, attending an Open House session is your time to visit and learn more!

How many spots will you be filling for this lottery?

Open space is determined by the number of current students planning to return. Any openings will first be filled from our Staff/Sibling Priority waitlist and then from the General Lottery waitlist.  Please note that we anticipate having openings for admission into Kindergarten on Lottery Night, and there may be openings in other grade levels (1st-12th). A wait list will be generated for any grade levels that are at capacity.  We do, however, typically have openings become available during the late Spring and Summer due to student withdrawal or retention.

How are siblings of currently enrolled students processed through enrollment?

Eligible Siblings of currently enrolled students will need to submit a new Sibling Lottery Registration Form each year until they are seated. Current CSD families will submit a lottery registration form found on our website, and respond accordingly to the questions about their currently enrolled child to submit the registration for the eligible sibling. Eligible Siblings of students currently attending CSD are given priority for placement as spaces for the applicable grade level become available. Sibling priority wait lists vary in number each year but can be quite large in some grade levels. Siblings must submit a sibling lottery application and the sibling lottery determines the order in which offers will be extended to siblings based on space available in each grade. The sibling lottery will run on February 18th. Families are notified via email after the sibling lottery has completed processing.

How are lottery results sent to families?

You do not need to be present at the lottery to receive admission to the school as the results are emailed after the event. After the lottery has been completed, we will email the results to the 1st email address listed on the registration form.

LOTTERY RESULTS WILL NOT BE GIVEN OVER THE PHONE

Those admitted on the night of the lottery will be notified by email, and if the seat is accepted by the 5-day deadline, an email with admission paperwork and requirements will follow.  We will notify any additional admissions after the night of the lottery by phone or email.

If my student is still on the waitlist by the 20th day of school, will I have to re-apply?

Yes, if your child is not accepted by the 20th day you will need to re-apply to the next year's lottery if you still want to be considered for the next year.

I had one of my children accepted, does that mean all of my children will be accepted this year?

No, this year, they will remain on the waitlist. Once your recently seated student has started school at CSD, other eligible siblings may be entered in the sibling lottery for enrollment for the following school year during the next open lottery registration period. They are not eligible for sibling waitlist status during their admitted sibling's pre-enrollment period since the admitted student must start school at CSD to be officially enrolled.
