Join Us in the Roaring 20s with “Drowsy Chaperone”
Presented by the YWCA New Britain and New Britain High School
The YWCA New Britain and New Britain High School present "The Drowsy Chaperone" August 2nd & 3rd. This 2006 musical, with Music & Lyrics by Lisa Lambert and Greg Morrison and a book by Bob Martin & Don McKellar, is a loving spoof of the American musical of the 1920s.
The story is narrated by Alanise Jimenez (New Britain) as Person in Chair. Throughout the evening, they describe their favorite old musical while listening to the cast album on their vintage record player while the characters come to life and act out the show within a show right there in their New York City apartment. Featuring Olivia Smailes (Southington) and Ethan Roy (New Britain) as a couple about to be married, the story includes Miguel Pagan (New Britain) as the frantic Best Man, Derick Lopez (New Britain) as an aging Latin Lothario, Jovan Torres (New Britain) as a desperate Broadway producer, Aliza Clark (New Britain) as a dopey chorus girl who wants to be a star, and Margarita Cartagena (New Britain) as the elderly and very absentminded hostess with Arthur Sanchez-Leroux (New Britain) as her faithful servant. Rounding out the cast are Alyssa Velasquez (New Britain) as Trix the Aviatrix, Michael Cordero (New Britain) and Spencer Meucci (Plainville) as two gangsters disguised as pastry chefs and Laura Munch (Berlin) as the eponymous “Drowsy” Chaperone, for whom “prohibition” is merely a suggestion.
Directed and Music Directed by Jason Nicolo Ferrandino (New Britain), with Choreography by Christine Kuzia (Plainville), Technical Direction by Robert Smedley (New Britain), Stage Management by Serina Julien (New Britain) and Sandy Butler (Plainville), and Matthew Sbalcio (Rocky Hill) conducting. The show also features singers and dancers from New Britain and surrounding towns.
