Recycling at Talley
Talley follows the City of Decatur protocols for curbside recycling. However, we also have collection bins for several high-use items that can be recycled through the CHaRM Center and Staples. These include aluminum cans, snack wrappers, cleaning wipes canisters, plastic that cannot go in curbside recycling and printer/toner cartridges.

Plastic Film Collection
In 2025-2026, the Talley community diverted an estimated 1,200 pounds of plastic film from our local landfill. We are pleased to report that Talley once again will have FREE plastic film pickup through Ridwell for the entire school year. Our first collection…for House Points…will be Thursday, August 13, 2026. Students and staff are encouraged to bring their clean, dry plastic film to school on that morning. Items that fall in this category are: shipping mailers, grocery and produce bags, zipper-top bags, bubble wrap, bread bags and newspaper bags. Rule of thumb: If you can push your finger through the plastic and stretch it, then it’s plastic film. Learn more here.

Other Collections
Other Collections
The Green Team is overseeing the collection of several commonly used household items for free recycling through Terracycle.
All items may be dropped off to Mrs. Roberts in the Media Center.
Squeezable Snack Pouches: This program accepts squeezable snack plastic pouches and their caps from all brands.
Small Food Packaging: Recycle all brands and types of empty sauce packets and containers, including coffee creamer pods.
Air and home care trigger heads: This program is sponsored by Mr. Clean and Febreeze, but all brands of trigger heads will be accepted.
Kroger Brand flexible packaging: This includes all flexible packaging under the Simple Truth™, Private Selection®, Kroger® Brand, Comforts®, Pet Pride®, Luvsome®, Abound® labels.
Laundry detergent pouches: This collection is specifically for ARM & HAMMER™ and OxiClean™ plastic laundry pouches.
Air freshener aerosols: This program is for Febreze brand aerosols only.
Swifer cleaning refills: This program is Swifer brand specific and is for USED duster refills, dry pad refills and wet pad refills only. Wet pads should be dry before sending in. Cardboard packaging should be placed in your curbside recycling.
NOTE: The free programs for Entenmann's Little Bites, drink pouches and Tide/Gain laundry tubs have ended. We no longer will be accepting these items for recycling.
Small Items
Small Items
We also are sponsoring a special collection of small items that includes loose plastic bottle caps, food pouch tops, pull tabs and plastic bread tags. Bottle caps and food pouch tops will be donated to a local musician for use in the creation of musical instruments. All other items will be recycled through Ridwell.
