Who?
Homelessness is a huge problem in our community. Here in Phoenix, Arizona there are over 9,400 homeless people and only about 1,500 beds available in homeless shelters throughout the whole city, our solution would greatly impact U.S. citizens and residents of the county of Maricopa.
What?
Homelessness has increased immensely over the past few years, because of that, we came up with a proposition that would theoretically decrease homelessness in our community, which is to repair or make improvements to homeless shelters.
When?
Our proposed policy would hopefully go into action in the year 2025.
Where?
Our proposed policy would be passed throughout the county of Maricopa in Arizona. Which would cover the cities/towns of Phoenix, Mesa, Surprise, Tempe, Scottsdale, Chandler, Gilbert, Glendale, Goodyear, Buckeye, Avondale, Paradise Valley, Sun City, Cave Creek, Litchfield Park, Fountain Hills, Tolleson, Wickenburg, El Mirage, Tonopah, Gila Bend, Sun City West, Youngtown, Carefree, Guadalupe, New River, Wittmann, Sun Lakes, Rio Verde, Morristown, Tortilla Flat, Komatke, Wranglers Roost, Aguila, St. Johns, Citrus Parks, Arlington, Wintersburg, Theba, and Kaka.
Why?
A lot of people are probably asking why we should fix homelessness in the first place. Why should we contribute to fixing something that we didn't create? Why should we help solve a problem that isn't ours? Well news flash, it does involve you! Many people think that homelessness isn't a problem for them because they aren't homeless, however, it does have an impact on you regardless. Think about all the people in the streets, all those people are a part of our community too! Helping to solve homelessness could lead to having cleaner streets and parks and having safer environments for you and your kids.
How?
How we plan to put our proposed policy in action is to spread the word to our local community to persuade support and increase awareness. According to Ms. Barker (an 8th grade science teacher at Raul H. Castro), the government should contribute because "The government’s job is to take care of the community, and if there is a problem in the community, the government should be in charge of helping to solve that problem.” If we work together as a team we are all capable of accomplishing great things, even things that may seem impossible at the moment.
