Animal Therapy by: Isaiah Moreno, Allison Montero, Amari Culver
Does it work?
Yes giving Prisoners chances to have pet animals while they are incarcerated does help. It helps give them a feeling of being appreciated and love that maybe they didn't have before. Animal therapy also helps prisoners heal for the harm or damage they caused in the community.
What are the advantages and disadvantages?
Advantages:
There are many good outcomes of animal therapy such as providing comfort to prisoners.
Provides comforts
lowers symptoms of depression
supports good mental health
Provides an escape or an happy distraction
Disadvantages:
Some could have allergies to the animal
Bad reaction/ attack from a animal
Fleas
scratch marks
Animal therapy is constitutional because it doesn't violate the prisoners rights. They would need the wardens permission to do this and the prisoners would NOT be forced to partake in this. This makes it constitutional.
