These local scholarships are available to Coquille High School seniors. These scholarships are provided through the generosity of local residents and businesses. Applications for these scholarships will be provided to students in the spring.
Scholarships of up to $1500 will be awarded each year. A minimum GPA of 3.3 is required. The award will be based on the following criteria: 60% academic scholarship, 20% activities, and 20% essay. Applicants who's parents/guardians who are members of CEA will be given priority,or those applicants pursing a career in the education field. Money for this scholarship is provided by the members of the Coquille Education Association.
Two $1000 scholarships will be awarded. Frank George was a lifelong farmer in the Coquille Valley. He is described as a hardworking and honest person who love to hunt and fish. Frank and his wife did not have any children and chose to leave their money to Coquille High School in an effort to assist selected graduates in pursuit of a college education. The scholarships are based on a student's financial need and scholastic ability.
One $2500 scholarship recipient, selected by the principal and the scholarship committe, will be awarded to a student who has a reasonable chance of success in higher education who would probably not receive help from other sources, and who is possibly in need. Guy and Maxine were both teachers in Coquille, Maxine was a Coquille graduate. In their memory, the family provides this annual scholarship to a graduation senior.
Fran Capehart, a retired veteran service officer, provides a $250 scholarship to a Coquille High School graduate enrolling in a college or university in the health/medical field. The scholarship is awarded on the basis of a student's academic record as well as financial need.
Ten scholarships that were made possible by Mr. and Mrs. Hupperich and are awarded to students based on GPA. This scholarship is looking for students who are community involved and wanting to pursue any higher education.
Many students remember David Oliver as Mr. O. Each year two seniors, one male and one female, will recieve a $125 scholarship. The recipients will be students who were an athelete during their senior year. The recipeints should have a 3.0 GPA or better.
The recepient will be a student who has an interest and ability in auto/diesel mechanics, welding/fabrications, or computer technology.
This recipient is someone who has a love for the arts and is willing to take a dance class in college.
This scholarship is in memorial of Jack Wayne Stevens. He attended kindergarten through high school in the Coquille School District. As he was preparing for graduation in 1945, he enlisted in the Marines. While Jack was able to complete all of his graduation requirements, he was unable to walk with his class because he was called to World War II. Jack returned to civilian life working with this father in the grovery store business in the Coquille and Coos Bay area. Many may remember Jack as the man who walked with the CHS graduating class of 2019, where he received his diploma dated June 1945. This scholarship is looking for students who work hard for their future.
Dean was a lineman for Coos-Curry Electric Coop. He believed in hard work and integrity. This scholarship is intended to help a student further their skills in the lineman trade.
This scholarship is for seniors looking to puruse a career in cosmetology and who has a plan for their future.
This scholarship is for seniors looking to puruse a career in welding or construction and who has a plan for their future.
Coach Andy and Bits Klemm Memorial Scholarship
For students with a minimum of a 3.0 high school GPA with preference to student athletes, those who seek to become teachers, coaches, and medical professionals, and those who demonstrate a high degree of citizenship and caring for others.
George Lyons Entrepreneurial Scholarship
Must have a small business already OR attend college to major in business or related to small business.
The criterion of this scholarship is for students who played volleyball, football, and/or boys and girls basketball. The value is $500.00 for each sport. This scholarship is for the student athlete that has played in the sports currently. The student athlete would need to write an essay answering these questions.
Essay should include answers to the following questions –
· Are you applying for this scholarship to help you with your school tuition, books, other educational material or are you applying for this Scholarship to help you with personal needs while in school?
· How has athletics impacted your life and who has influenced you the most and how?
· Are you planning to continue to play sports and at what level?
· What are your plans after Graduation and how are you going to achieve them?
