FAQ

E-Learning Day FAQs

Q: How will I know it is an e-learning day?

A: E-learning days will be called in the same way an emergency day has been called in the past.  Notification will go out through the website, the CSD17 app, Twitter, and email. Depending on the circumstances, it may be called as either a traditional day (to be made up at the end of the year) or an e-learning day.

Q:  What hours should my child be completing schoolwork?

A:  We do expect students to check in by 9:00am to be counted for attendance.  However, we realize that during an emergency event a number of variables may prevent students from completing work continuously through the day.  Typically, students and teachers will have live check-ins during the day.  Communication between students and the teachers may be ongoing until 3:20pm (or earlier if it is a pre-scheduled early dismissal day).  Any assignment that is expected to be turned in on the same day can be submitted until 10:00pm.  This will also allow siblings to use a shared home device at different times during the day.  All other work will have a due date assigned by the teacher.

Q: How much time must my child spend in order to get credit for attendance on an E-Learning Day?

A: Students should progress through the high-quality activities assigned to them.  The length of the activities will vary based on the grade level and the context of what your child is learning.  All lessons will be meaningful and related to what students are learning in class.

Q: How will my child (or I) verify that the required learning has been completed?

A: Each school may have a slightly different process. Most students will verify and/or submit work using their Google Classroom account.  The teachers will then have the ability to see the submitted assignments.

Q: What if my K-grade 4 child does not have access to a device at home?

A: When inclement weather is predicted, the school will make every effort to send a device home with students to use.  Children may also use a family device to complete assignments.  Please e-mail your child's teacher if they do not have a device and we may be able to deliver a loaner device.

Q: What if my child is absent?  When will school work be due to the teacher?

A: The make-up work policy is the same regardless of an e-learning day or a typical attendance day.

Q: What if I need technical support during the school day?

A: Communicate your questions with the teacher. The teacher will help solve the problem or escalate to the appropriate person.

Q: Will all students participate?

A: Students in grades K-8 will participate in e-learning days.  Students in pre-k, early childhood, and the CAB program will not complete an e-learning day on emergency days.  Information on make-up days will be provided to families of these students.
