The summer school program at the Campbell-Savona Jr./Sr. High School is conducted for the following reasons:
- To enable students to enrich their education through additional secondary school courses.
- To enable students to make up work they failed during the regular school year.
- To enable pupils of sufficient ability and maturity to complete a high school program in less than the normally required time.
Summer school on the Campbell- Savona Campus is for students who attended grades 7-12 during the 2016-2017 school year. Each participating district will have their own summer school admission standards. Please see your guidance counselor. Participating districts include Addison, Bath, Hammondsport and Campbell–Savona.
Respect- Students need to demonstrate respect to others in all areas of the building.
Ownership- Student should take ownership for their learning and their mistakes.
Attitude- Students should maintain a positive attitude at all times.
Responsibility- Students should be prepared and ready to learn.
Safety- Students need to practice good safety practices throughout the school building.
The school is made of students and adults who are given the opportunity to work with and socialize with each other honestly, morally, and courteously. Mutual respect comes from interacting with other members of the school. Students earn and retain their privileges by demonstrating responsibility and consideration for others.
Actions which endanger, offend, or harass others will not be tolerated. Student behavior must not interfere with the right of another student to receive an education or with a teacher’s responsibility to perform his/her duties.
APPROPRIATE BEHAVIOR IS ESSENTIAL. All behavior shall be in accordance with the Campbell-Savona Central School District Code of Conduct and Disciplinary Policy. Violent and threatening behavior will be grounds for dismissal from summer school. Violent or threatening behavior will not be tolerated.
Always accept the judgment of a teacher whenever you are on school property. If you disagree with a teacher, present your views to school officials after following instructions. Do not refuse to obey a directive given by a teacher. Remember to respect your administrators, teachers, peers and most importantly, yourself.
It is important to note that the summer school program is a privilege extended to you by your District, not a right. It is to your benefit to obey all rules and conduct yourself as a mature student.
· Daily attendance and participation are critical to earn a passing grade.
· There is no distinction between excused and unexcused absences.
· Three instances of tardiness will be counted as one absence.
· A student may be absent 3 days without loss of credit. When a student is absent the fourth day, BOCES will recommend that the student not be given credit for the class taken.
All students must complete the registration process with their guidance counselors. Registration is open from June 1 through June 30, 2017.
Pre-registration is preferred.
The following items must be presented at registration:
· Health card or copy of current year health card, completed and signed
· Student Guidelines, read and signed
· An IEP is necessary on each identified special education student attending summer school for academic and/or driver education classes.
Students will be registered to a Learning Lab if they are not registered for a class. All students will have a complete three period schedule. Students who have a first period or third period Learning Lab class may bring in a written note from the parent/guardian excusing the student from this class, allowing him/her to arrive late or leave early. Students who ride the bus for their school district must remain in the class. Students may not leave campus and return to campus to get a bus or attend a class. THIS IS A CLOSED CAMPUS.

Students being dropped off by a parents will enter at the main entrance of the school by the bus loop. All students must go directly to the cafeteria to meet their teachers. Parents should park in the visitor parking lot accessible from route 226.
At the conclusion of the school day, parents should park in the visitor parking lot, enter the building from the side cafeteria door, and must be signed out with your child’s summer school teacher.
Students should park in the main school parking lot (inside of the bus loop.
Students and their parents have the primary responsibility for acceptable student dress and appearance. Teachers and all other summer school personnel should exemplify and reinforce acceptable student dress and help students develop an understanding of appropriate appearance in the school setting.
A student’s dress, grooming and appearance, including jewelry, make-up and nails, shall:
1. Be safe, appropriate and not disrupt or interfere with the educational process.
2. Recognize that extremely brief garments such as “short shorts or skirts”, tube tops, net tops, mid-drift, halter tops, spaghetti straps, plunging necklines (front and/or back) and see-through garments are not appropriate.
3. Ensure that underwear is completely covered with outer clothing at all times.
4. Include footwear at all times. Footwear that is a safety hazard will not be allowed. Flip flops are not allowed on the playground. Sneakers are recommended.
5. Not include the wearing of hats, visors, bandanas, or head coverings in the building except for a medical, religious, or educational purpose during regular instructional school hours.
Students who violate the student dress code shall be required to modify their appearance by covering or removing the offending item and, if necessary or practical, replacing it with an acceptable item.
Your child’s district may provide transportation via school bus to and from the summer school site. Please contact your district’s bus garage for more information.
See the Summer School Secretary. Do not leave the school without notifying school officials. We do not have a school nurse on staff during the summer months.
You must notify the Summer School office and sign out if you wish to leave school before classes are over. You must bring in a written permission slip from your parent/guardian. Prior notice of absence should be given (i.e. doctor appointment, etc.) to the Summer School office and the teacher should be notified in advance. Do not leave the school building without permission.
The possession or unauthorized use of radios, MP3 players, iPods, or cell phones is not permitted. Unauthorized use will result in the confiscation of the item, followed by a parent conference in which the parent will be able to pick up the device.
State law prohibits the use of tobacco products on school premises. There is NO SMOKING/NO TOBACCO USE on the Campbell-Savona Jr./Sr. High School campus nor may students loiter in the neighborhood of the campus. Failure to adhere to this policy will result in the student being suspended from summer school and possible notification to the State Police. Students are not allowed to carry tobacco products, lighters, or matches on school property.
Any student sent out of class for disciplinary reasons, must report to the office, DO NOT LEAVE THE BUILDING. Students who create discipline problems will not be allowed to remain in summer school. Attendance in summer school is a privilege, which may be revoked by the principal. The following list, while not inclusive, gives some guidelines as to how discipline problems may be handled.
Students who have consistent difficulty with following summer school expectations will be required to conference with the Summer School Principal and their parent/guardian. The team will work together to develop a plan to learn the appropriate behavior and to prevent the misbehavior from occurring again.
Based on the Campbell-Savona Central School District’s Code of Conduct, the following consequences are required for the indicated offense.
