An innovative and creative individual.
While attending the Virginia Tech School of Public Administration and Affairs' Virginia Public Sector Leader 1 Leadership Development Program, I helped to develop, present, and run the G.R.I.T. (Guiding Retrospect Into Tomorrow) Mentoring Program for the employees who are being displaced by Southwestern Virginia Training Center's (SWVTC) 2018 closure.
In addition to my hard skills of being able to create a killer presentation, my emotional intelligence and ability to work with people of different backgrounds helped me to gain a promotion from Executive Secretary to Community Integration Transition Project Leader while I was at SWVTC.
As the Community Integration Transition Project Leader I have to be able to schedule, prepare, conduct, and deploy trainings and shadowing sessions for providers in the community. A typical training on one individual takes two weeks to prepare for and I have multiple trainings each week. I have been able to keep my records straight on each individual and make sure that the professionals who conduct the trainings are aware of when and where to be. In order to make sure discharges go smoothly I have to ensure that all trainings take place within a certain time period and are recorded appropriately.
Many of my coworkers look to me a as a leader as I have helped to develop and present workshops that will help them with their futures. These workshops include: interview skills, resume building, cover letter writing, email etiquette, LinkedIn, and online job boards. Coworkers come to me for guidance as they work on their personal resumes and prepare for interviews as they leave SWVTC.
I love to learn. Whether it happens in a classroom, through on the job training, through reading books, or just doing something for the first time and learning from my mistakes, learning is a passion of mine and I also love to share what I learn with those who are interested.
When I am passionate about something, whether it is a job, a project, the mission of the company that I'm at, or life in general, I will give 110% each and every day.
