Student VBSM Arrival Info
Please arrive at The Ocean Cove Motel (300 24th St, Virginia Beach, VA, 23451) on Saturday, May 22, after NOON but before 4pm. Please allow for as much time as possible because traffic will most likely cause delays. When you arrive, please look for our staff. They will direct you to where to park and where to check-in. Once you have checked-in, take time to get settled, make some friends, and maybe take a trip to the grocery store if you have time! Our wonderful staff team will be there to welcome you!
We will then gather at 5pm at Galilee Episcopal Church (3928 Pacific Ave. Virginia Beach, VA 23451; between 5-10 minutes drive from the hotel) for a Welcome Dinner!
Sunday morning you will attend a local church which will be assigned to you Saturday night at the Welcome Dinner). Sunday afternoon will be a time for you to settle into your hotel room and bring your support checks to Rob Menko. Make sure you bring any and all support checks (and copies!) with you to Virginia Beach! If you've raised over your initial goal and would like to receive reimbursements (travel expenses, stamps, printing letters, and envelopes) Be sure to bring all your receipts.
Note: If you plan on flying into Norfolk, VA, please fill out the Student Pre-SM questionnaire with your flight details by Monday, May 10. We will arrange to have someone pick you up! A Cru staff member will reach out to you during the days leading up to your arrival.
A note on parking: we will not have enough parking passes for everyone to park at the motel. There will be some students that will be given a residential parking pass and need to park a block or two from the motel.
Student VBSM Packing List
You will be living in a motel for 10 weeks (Ocean Cove Motel) which has it’s restrictions but it will suit our needs really well. AND it’s in such a great location in the heart of Virginia Beach! All rooms are suites (living/dining room, kitchenette, bathroom, and bedroom) that have their own private bathroom. You will be in a room ranging from 2 to 4 students of the same gender. Each room comes with a bunk bed for each student.
There are laundry facilities on sight but anticipate those to fill up quickly as we are in a sense taking over the Ocean Cove for the summer. There will also be other guests staying on the property this summer so you might need to take your laundry to a laundromat.
The motel does NOT have a pool on-site, but there is a small ocean just two blocks away. :)
