As you begin the MPD process, one of the first questions you may ask is, “Whom will I ask to support my ministry?” You need to develop a list of prospective ministry partners. This list will include people you know well, acquaintances and people you may not know at all.
To develop your list of contacts, we start with the namestorming process which is similar to brainstorming. In brainstorming the objective is to come up with as many ideas as possible before any evaluation is done. No idea is disqualified.
Your objective is to develop a list of names without evaluating their potential for supporting you. Do not decide for an individual whether or not he or she is interested or is in a position to support you. If you limit yourself to those you feel will or can give you may prematurely disqualify those God wants to become your ministry partners. Later in this assignment you will need to prioritize who to contact first, but initially, do not disqualify anyone.
Before you start Namestorming, spend some time praying for God to lead you to the names of those whom He wants you to contact. Make it a practice to pray each day for the Lord to bring new names to mind. Make a copy of this template spreadsheet and use the Categories for Namestorming guide below to help you.
As you namestorm your contacts, also be considering who are the key people in your family, church, and community that you may approach to “loan you their credibility” and personally introduce you to their network of contacts.
The following list will help you think of potential contacts. Begin praying for those you plan to contact! See if you can Namestorm 200 potential partners!
