At Hillcrest, we use a school-wide approach called PBIS, which stands for Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports. It helps us create a kind and respectful environment where every student can learn and grow.
PBIS is all about teaching and encouraging positive behavior. We don’t just tell students what not to do—we teach them exactly what to do so they feel confident and successful at school.
To guide our behavior, we follow our Hillcrest ROAR Rules:
Respectful to All
Obey Safety Rules
Act Responsibly
Ready to Learn
These are the expectations we teach and model in every part of the school—from the classroom to the cafeteria to the playground. We practice these together so that students know what it looks and sounds like to be respectful, safe, responsible, and ready in all kinds of situations.
When students follow the ROAR Rules, they can earn ROAR tickets from any staff member. These are fun rewards that recognize positive behavior and help students feel proud of their choices! Students can use their ROAR tickets in different ways—like entering them in raffles, or helping their class work toward a celebration. It’s a great way to keep motivation high and focus on the positive.
Starting school is a big transition, and we want every student to feel safe, confident, and supported. PBIS helps us create a welcoming school where children know what’s expected and are recognized for doing their best. When students feel good about their behavior, they’re more ready to learn and grow. We can’t wait to get to know your child and work together with you to make this year a great one!
