Students receive school counseling services when their social and emotional wellness is impacting their ability to succeed in the school environment. There are different supports a School Counselor can provide to help enhance the experience of a student. Churchville's counseling program focuses on four primary services: Curriculum, Individual Planning, Responsive Services, and System Support.
Curriculum
School Counselors can address the needs of a classroom as a whole by providing effective classroom lessons that focus on relevant academic, career, and social/emotional topics identified as a need by the classroom teacher.
Individual Planning
A School Counselor provides individual or small group counseling sessions. These sessions last for 6-8 weeks. If a student requires additional support after the initial 6-8 weeks of individual or group intervention, the School Counselor works with the parents and school support staff to determine if a referral to a different school support program or a referral to an outside agency is needed.
Responsive Services
School Counselors are trained through the ALICE and QPR models in order to provide crisis prevention and intervention services.
System Support
School Counselors work closely with parents, teachers, School Psychologists, Social Workers and outside agencies to provide a comprehensive support plan for the individual student.
