Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE)

ECSE is a program that provides educational services for children ages 3 to 5 who have the need for a continuum of special education services. The goal of their instruction is always to move toward an inclusive educational setting with their age-appropriate peers without disabilities.

The ECSE classroom provides an opportunity for students to learn according to their individualized needs and learning styles. As with all our special education programs, the ultimate outcome is for the students to achieve their maximum development of independence.

The ECSE classroom focuses on language, cognition, fine motor, gross motor, self-help skills and socialization. Teachers and Para-Professionals address the individual needs of each student through developmentally appropriate learning experiences while fostering an independent sense of self in relation to family, peers and the community environment.

Philosophy

· Young children learn best by hands on experiences.

· Children are actively and physically engaged in the learning process.

· Children are encouraged to reach their greatest potential through activities that build self- confidence as well as stimulate growth and development.
