Designing the new CMS and Central Office
CONCEPT DESIGN
The Building Committee worked with Tecton Architects during April and May 2022 to establish a Concept Design - the size and general shape of the building. The Concept Design was developed using the Educational Specifications that were established and approved by the Board of Education. These Educational Specifications serve as the scope of the project and are consistent through all design stages. This Concept Design was then given to a third party estimator who was able to assign a estimated cost to the project. The Concept Design and associated estimated cost was presented to the Town of Cromwell and voted on during the June 2022 referendum.

SCHEMATIC DESIGN
The Building Committee worked with Perkins Eastman Architects during November and December 2022 to develop the Schematic Design for the new CMS. The same Educational Specifications that were established and approved by the Board of Education were used as the scope for this phase of the design as well. This phase of the design allows for the addition of details such as site plan/landscaping, detailed floor plans, building and site elevations, and building systems/mechanicals. At the end of Schematic Design phase the package was used by two estimators to provide another cost estimate with the additional details that were not part of the Concept Design.

DESIGN DEVELOPMENT
The Building Committee continued work with Perkins Eastman Architects during January and February 2023 to build upon the schematic design as they progressed through the Design Development phase. The main goal of this phase is to define and develop the important aspects of the project. The exterior, interior layouts, room sizes, and materials are more fully designed. The end of this phase will also be marked with another cost estimate for the project.
