The All School Production gives students the opportunity to perform on stage and work behind the scenes. The productions have been in late winter. In the past, Cromwell High has presented numerous shows, such as Rock of Ages, Anything Goes, Grease, Chicago, and 9 to 5. All acting students must audition for parts in a play. However, all are welcome to work behind the scenes. There is plenty to do! Open to all students.
The purpose of the Cromwell Awareness Youth Action Council (CAYAC), a group comprised of a faculty advisor and Cromwell High School students, is to increase school and community awareness of tobacco, alcohol, and other drugs. Through collaborative efforts of school and community representatives, CAYAC will provide the resources and programs that lead to the prevention of substance abuse in Cromwell. CAYAC won the Charter Oak Conference Group Award 2003 – 2004.
The mission of the CHS Carbon Club is to promote environmental awareness and sustainable lifestyle choices within the Cromwell High School community.
It is the purpose of Cromwell High School’s Dance team to promote school spirit, provide entertainment through the art of dance and rhythm at athletic events, and to represent and uphold the school and community values at the highest caliber.
Team members have personal goals of high academic achievement, increasing their dance ability, learning effective time management, and forming strong friendships.
The purpose of this organization shall be to provide training and a competitive venue for students who wish to learn formal debate techniques. The Debate Team shall debate issues on a weekly basis as an after-school activity, and shall compete with other public and private high schools in Connecticut debates.
The Cromwell High School division of the Future Problem Solving Program of Connecticut (FPSP of CT) prepares students for the future by teaching them essential problem solving skills. The challenging materials of the Future Problem Solving Program help students learn how to think, not what to think. Future Problem Solving motivates and assists students to develop an active interest in the future, improve written and oral communication skills, work cooperatively, develop research skills while learning about complex social and scientific issues, and think creatively, critically, and analytically. CHS Future Problem Solvers have the opportunity to compete against other school districts.
Our mission is to cultivate an interest in education, provide a possibly pathway to become an educator, provide meaningful experiences for Cromwell Public School students at the elementary, intermediate, middle and high school levels, and to help the Cromwell Public School community.
The CHS Graphics Club mission is to facilitate student commitment to graphics that highlight student achievement in sports and to strengthen school spirit at CHS. Members will work as a team to help each other better their potential in design and graphics.
We the members of the Cromwell High School Gay-Straight Alliance strive to create a safer and more supportive environment for LGBTQ+ students and their allies at Cromwell High School. We help to educate the Cromwell High School community on acceptance and tolerance in hopes to end homophobia and harassment against gender non-conforming students.
The purpose of the Cromwell High School History Club is to further the knowledge and appreciation for history. In the History Club we will study both US history and World history by watching historic movies, discussing current events, and working collaboratively with the Cromwell Historical Society. All students are welcome to join.
This group of musicians is comprised of students who audition for the ensemble in the Fall. Students are usually members of the Cromwell High School Concert Band, but auditions are also open to students who are not. The Jazz Ensemble rehearses once a week for two hours. The musicians perform jazz and jazz/rock music at various concerts throughout the school year.
This group of musicians is comprised of Soprano, Alto, Tenor, and Bass students from all grade levels. It is auditioned but mainly for voice part placement. All students will be admitted unless more than 35 audition. The choir rehearses once a week for 60 minutes with additional rehearsals scheduled according to the event they are performing in. Members will be notified at least one week in advance of additional rehearsals. Singers will perform mostly pop repertoire at school concerts and local a cappella event
The NAHS mission is to recognize students who have shown outstanding ability and interest in art. Students in NAHS will be empowered to further their creative abilities and artistic talents. All members will be encouraged to help bring attention to the progress of art in our school and town community by furthering artistic and esthetic awareness. In order to be eligible for NAHS, the student must take or have taken at least 1 fine arts class with a 90 average or better. Students must also meet eligibility requirements for character as well as service hours (8 hours) to the NAHS. All students are welcome to become Members in Training. Any student who wishes to become an NAHS member who is unable to adhere to our bylaws must submit a formal request to be approved of by the NAHS sponsor and its Executive Board.
Four purposes have guided NHS since its inception: to create excitement for academia; to stimulate a desire for citizen service; to build leadership skills; and to develop character in students. The NHS is open to juniors and seniors who have earned at least a 3.6 average in academics and have satisfied the other criteria of leadership, service, and character. NHS members are selected at the discretion of the faculty council in the fall. NHS performs community service in and out of the school throughout the year.
The CHS Newspaper Club mission is to facilitate student commitment to journalism that highlights student experience, student achievement and to strengthen school spirit. Members will work as a team to help each other better their potential in journalism. Our various student media will bring positive attention to the school community and to encourage students to share their experiences as students of CHS.
To promote and provide students the opportunity to have hands on building and programming experience while constructing a robot for a specialized purpose and to test their work against other machines designed for the same purpose.
Select Choirs include Men’s Choir (a combination of Tenors and Basses), Women’s Choir (a combination of Sopranos and Altos), and Select choir (Sopranos, Altos, Tenors and Basses). We are all vocalists who perform a diverse repertoire of music at a Holiday Concert, a Benefit Concert and a Vocal Jazz and Pops Cabaret.
The object of this club shall be to ski and ride on New England and/or area mountains. Open to all students and staff.
This club is open to sophomores, juniors and seniors. It would provide meaningful experiences and opportunities out of the classroom and allows students to differentiate their own language learning experience. Some ideas of volunteer learning opportunities are: Teaching language to students in ECS and WIS; Promoting Spanish literacy in the younger grades; Collecting food, clothing, shoes, school supplies that could be sent to Spanish speaking countries to promote civic duty and global awareness; Providing tutoring to students in Spanish 1, 2, and 3 to promote an individual’s own learning and supporting other learners; Student research community service hours.
It shall be the purpose of the Tri-M Music Honor Society to give its chapters the opportunity to (a) provide an appropriate method of recognizing musical achievement; (b) strengthen school music programs; (c) help students reach their full musical potential; (d) motivate and recognize students’ musical and personal achievement beyond the incentives of credits and grades; (e) encourage instrumental and vocal students to work together toward common goals; (f) present an inspiration and challenge to music students; and (g) focus public attention through greater integration of music in the community.
The Ultimate Frisbee Club is dedicated to teaching and learning the requisite skills of Ultimate. Learning Ultimate requires learning to play the game fairly and respecting the opponent while maintaining a high level of competition. The Ultimate Frisbee Club is open to all students and staff.
The purpose of the Unity Club is to promote awareness and acceptance of diversity in the school and community. Unity promotes a school climate that facilitates positive inter-group relations and discourages prejudice and discrimination. Unity is open to all students.
This student organization exists as an extra-curricular educational activity to promote the study of world languages at Cromwell High School and to provide students the opportunity to gain a greater knowledge of and appreciation for other cultures. Various fund-raisers earn monies, which enable students to go on field trips, and therefore experience foreign cultures first-hand. This club promotes an understanding and appreciation of both Francophone and Hispanic language and other cultures. Cultural events have included visits to museums, plays, restaurants, and movies. The club is open to any student even those who are not taking French or Spanish at Cromwell High School.
The school yearbook will begin being planned in the summer and continue throughout the school year. The yearbook is a collection of pictures, a summary of events, and a display of local and school advertisements. The editor-in-chief(s) is a senior who delegates responsibility to the other members of the club. Yearbook is open to all students.
