We have focussed over the past two years on making our Kāhui Ako Community of Learning into an Enviro-focussed one. Our Community of Learning encompasses the two primary schools, the College and the Early Childhood Centres in our area. All of these kura are on board and have a community environmental/sustainability focus and committment to weaving this into our practices. There have been many events and projects on the go over the past year. The most noteworthy of these were:
Enviro-Col Exhibition
Celebrating Lake Dunstan through the eyes of the local preschool and school students from the Cromwell 'Community of Learners'. This showcased projects, trips and movies dedicated to celebrating our beautiful lake and what we can do to protect it. This was in collaboration with our local group 'Guardians of the Lake'.
Kāhui Ako Whānau Picnic
Friends and whānau from all kura and early childhood centres in our Community of Learning were encouraged to come for a picnic and share some kai. Tamariki and their whānau were able to listen to waiata and stories, share kai and make connections.
Combined Schools' Matariki 2019
Friends and whānau from all kura and early childhood centres in our Community of Learning were encouraged to come for a picnic and share some kai. Tamariki and their whānau were able to listen to waiata and stories, share kai and make connections.
Kāhui Ako Teacher Only Day 2020
Teachers from the three kura in our area (Cromwell Primary School, Goldfields Primary School and Cromwell College) got together for a teacher only day focussed on Wellbeing. This encompassed our own wellbeing as kaiako, and the wellbeing of our tamariki and their whānau. This day involved teachers from all schools taking part in workshops run by experts such as Dr Denise Quinlan who spoke about wellbeing for us and our learners, and local kaumātua Darren Rewi who provided rich history and stories of the area we live in and the connection to the people of this area. This knowledge was taken back into schools and integrated into our planning and teaching.
Local kaumātua Darren Rewi shares stories connecting us to the land and the people of our area.
