This year's forum, organized by the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC), brought together insurance professionals, emergency managers, and others in St. Louis, Missouri, to discuss earthquake insurance issues in the central United States.
CREW published the results of a survey of insurance agents in the western United States: The survey was funded by the National Earthquake Hazards Reduction Program and was undertaken to learn whether and how agents talk with consumers about earthquake risk and earthquake insurance, as well as to discover what information and resources they might need in order to educate insurance shoppers and policyholders about these topics.

This new study by the Missouri Department of Commerce and Insurance, the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC) Center for Insurance Policy and Research, and the University of Missouri’s Disaster and Community Crisis Center explores the factors, beyond cost and availability, that might impact a consumer’s decision to purchase earthquake insurance coverage.

This online resource and toolkit offers quick access to free outreach products, tips, and messaging to help earthquake preparedness professionals and state insurance officials educate the public about seismic risk and financial readiness actions (including earthquake insurance). The FEMA Region IX Earthquake Insurance Team published a one-page fact sheet, the first of a number of planned outreach tools featuring earthquake insurance and financial preparedness. The publication was launched on August 24, 2021, to coincide with the anniversary of the M6.0 Napa earthquake in 2014.
