Third graders are not working in their grade level classrooms on creating scaled picture graphs and scaled bars to represent real world data. When we say "scaled" it means that the picture in the graph could be worth a value other an 1. For example, each ice cream cone could represent 5 people who like ice cream. In order to be successful with this your child will need some background skills.
These include:
solving 2 step word problems involving all of the operations (+,-,x, Ă· )
unitizing- being able to understand number as units or groups

Your children are hard at work in their third grade level classrooms understanding rounding numbers to the nearest 10 or 100. In order to be successful with rounding your child needs some background skills.
These include:
Being able to count forward to 120 and back from 120 starting from any number.
Being able to read, write and represent 2 and 3 digit numbers.
Understanding place VALUE concepts of 2 and 3 digit numbers.
Understanding the value of decuples (30, 40, 50, 60, etc.) and number families (60-69 are part of the 60's number family)
