This month the Student Support Department brings to you yet another set of parenting comics titled “Focus on Strengths”.
We believe that every child has worth. One way to help our children recognize their value is to appreciate them for their unique strengths. Focusing on their strengths rather than weaknesses also helps them to build resilience. When they are resilient, they are more likely to overcome challenges and obstacles.
When your child knows where their strengths are, they are able to contribute positively and lead more meaningful lives.
You can help your child build Character Strengths by:
1. Building a positive family culture where you and your children openly complement each other for the character strengths that you have observed,
2. Encouraging your children to use their strengths in their daily lives,
3. Tapping on your child’s strengths, especially in the face of adversities and in overcoming obstacles, and
4. Connecting with your child on an emotional level to help build emotional strength.
E.g. Make expressing and talking about their thoughts and feelings a natural daily conversation.
