Did you know 1 in 5 adults in the United States experience a mental illness? Fifty percent of chronic mental illnesses emerge by age 14, and 75 percent emerge by age 24 (NAMI, 2021). Like it says in 2 Corinthians 12:9-10, Jesus' power is made perfect in our weakness. When we surrender to Him and "boast" in our weakness, his power rests on us.
During high school, it is vital to be aware of our feelings, use healthy coping skills, and seek help when it is needed. Even if we do not have a clinical mental health condition, taking care of our minds helps us run the race with endurance. To promote optimal health, the American Academy of Sleep Medicine recommends that children get the following amounts of sleep on a regular basis:
Infants 4 months to 12 months should sleep 12 to 16 hours per 24 hours (including naps).
Children 1 to 2 years of age should sleep 11 to 14 hours per 24 hours (including naps).
Children 3 to 5 years of age should sleep 10 to 13 hours per 24 hours (including naps).
Children 6 to 12 years of age should sleep 9 to 12 hours per 24 hours.
