The Japan America Society of Greater Philadelphia seeks Japanese Language Instructors (updated 8/26/2025)
The Japan America Society of Greater Philadelphia seeks Japanese Language Instructors for its Japanese Classroom. This is a contract position which will receive a 1099 tax form at year end for filing purposes. The successful applicant must be eligible to work in the United States and be able to provide all required documentation.
JASGP’s goal is to make Greater Philadelphia a nationally and globally known center of Japanese art, business, and culture by promoting mutual friendship and understanding between Greater Philadelphia and Japan. At JASGP, we continually celebrate cultural flexibility and curiosity through ongoing training and professional development. As an equal opportunity employer, we stay true to our mission by ensuring that our staff and board are representative of our varied stakeholders, including our neighbors in Philadelphia’s West Park and the Japanese heritage community in the Philadelphia region.
Using the Japan Times’ “Genki: An Integrated Course in Elementary Japanese,” instructors will have great leeway in lesson planning and out of class assignments. Class meetings will be weekly 90 minute evening sessions for ten consecutive weeks. There are 3 semesters per year; a Spring semester (February to April), a Summer Semester (May to August) and a Fall Semester (September to December). The classes are currently being held over Zoom, with the possibility of returning to in person lessons at some point in the future. Depending on availability, instructors should expect to teach one to two classes per semester, mostly in the 100 level range. Class size is set to be no more than 12 students at this time.
