Athletic Trainers are trained to assess a wide variety of illnesses, injuries, and ailments. The AT will use the most up to date, evidence based sports medicine knowledge to make decisions in the best interest of the student-athlete's short term and long term health.
Once an injury has been assessed, the student-athlete will be placed in one of 4 categories:
A student-athlete's status will be communicated to them by the AT. This same status will be communicated to the Coach, Parent/Guardian, and school nurses as necessary. If further evaluation is necessary, referral to the ER, Orthopedist, Specialist, or Pediatrician, or others will be recommended. This will be discussed with the student athlete and parent/guardian. Once an outside referral is needed (or you go for an visit without seeing the AT) a doctor's note with your participation status is needed for any level of return to sport.
