CRLS Unified Sports

What are Unified Sports?

Unified Sports is a program that brings together students with and without disabilities to participate in sports with unity. Students who are a good fit for Unified Sports are empathetic, patient and take initiative to promote inclusivity and peer relationships, regardless of what someone looks like, or what their abilities might be. The ideal partner athlete has a positive attitude and is willing to learn and adapt to the needs of their teammates. They take leadership in building relationships, while striving to work collaboratively and celebrate successes; regardless of the outcome of the game. In summary, Unified partner athletes promote sportsmanship, take initiative to build relationships and are eager to build inclusive communities. If these elements speak to who you are as an individual, then we encourage you to sign up and participate in Unified Sports!

The priority on our team is providing opportunities to students with and without disabilities to engage in sport together through teamwork; competition and winning are not priorities of ours, but rather, building community and creating visibility of ALL students in our school through sport. Students who do not have a classified disability take on a role of "partner-athlete" in which they facilitate the game and promote the participation of our "athletes"
