In physical education classes there are so many factors: music & fast paced movement within games & challenges. We are working with other people, which can be helpful or challenging, and we are working with ourselves, which may also have it's challenges. And 45 mins sometimes is not enough time to slow down, take some deep breaths, especially after you just had so much movement with your friends.
This is why I am making an effort to visit classrooms once a month so that students and I can see each other in a different setting to proactively preview how to best support any emotions that may come up in PE class.
Recap of September: Using the Bean Bag as a break spot. Independently - 1 Person at a time to help get students back toward the Green Zone.
October: After a large game or challenge, or even choice time, where students are working a lot, moving a lot.. How do you Transition nicely to cleaning up, drinking water, and lining up with a calm body.
November: Treating others & your self kindly through Shout Outs. These are kind compliments that you give to others at the end of PE class to make yourself feel good about working with others, and of course to make another person feel good about the way they did great.
