WHAT? Choice and challenge courses provide an opportunity for students to dive deeper into core academic content as well as visual and performing arts and design thinking to name a few. Intensives will be based on need and serve as a Tier 2 intervention as well as an opportunity for choice so that we can embed additional supports and challenges within our schedule.
WHEN? All intensives will begin in Q2 on Monday, Nov. 23rd and will take place for 40 minutes during the live office hours period.
HOW? Choice and challenge intensives will be taught by coaches, interventionists, and specialists.
Intensive offerings will be reviewed in advisory on 10/28 and 11/4 (Wednesdays).

Students will be notified of their virtual intensive by Monday, 11/16/20.
This class is for anyone who wants to work on building their acting and playwriting skills. Using your voice, body and face to create fun characters, we will play and perform stories together! During class we will participate in improv comedy games, experiment with theater exercises and work on short scenes. Students will also get the opportunity to write their own scenes and short plays that they can cast their peers in and virtually direct. This class is meant to be an opportunity to express yourself, laugh and dive into the world of theater!

The Band Intensive will expand on the student's musical performance skills learned from previous years of study on their musical instrument. Emphasis is placed on the development of instrumental music techniques necessary to meet high standards of music performance. Students in the Band should expect to practice regularly on their musical instrument; and, on occasion upload video of their musical performance in order for Mr. Sciarra to create a virtual band video. Students in the Band should expect to continue playing on the instruments they played last year.

Students will learn the fundamentals of vocal technique and learn to apply those skills to both solo and ensemble singing. We will observe different vocal styles between various genres of music. Students will also work on building their sight reading skills through solfege.

Students will begin to explore and appreciate various aspects of culture such as Art, Film, Music, and Poetry. Students who choose this intensive will have in depth analysis and discussion about the work presented as well as share their own personal work, interest, and discoveries on the topic. The course will provide several opportunities for students to collaborate with their peers and further develop critical thinking skills.

This intensive invites students to find their voice and use the Design Thinking process to design digital artifact(s) that communicate a message about their social justice issue. Students will work together to research, investigate, design, critique, gather data, revise and rework designs to create a final artifact that makes them proud and to become agents of change in our PAUS/Cambridge community.

Keep playing your violin, viola or cello... with two group classes per week we’ll have the chance to play a whole range of fun music and you’ll get the individual help you need to improve. You’ll get the chance to choose the music we play from a huge online library of songs and pieces. Instruments are provided by the school. The better you get, the more fun it gets!

Would you like to travel the world, in this time of pandemic, in a safe and enjoyable manner? Come join Mme Mignot to learn about the most beautiful and interesting Francophone sites. In this course, students will discover and learn about places of significant interest through a cultural lens (art, music, food specialties, history, architecture, fun facts, etc…). In addition, students will be expected to conduct research, gather information, and discuss, share and present chosen Francophone sites through virtual displays of their choice. This course will be conducted mostly in English, though students will certainly learn some French words and expressions. En route pour l'aventure !
