School-Based Literacy Coaches

Literacy Coaching

Literacy coaching is an integral part of the ELA Framework. Coaches receive ongoing professional learning to support them in providing high-impact school-based coaching.  Coaching is student centered, collaborative and reflective, and results in the continuous improvement of teaching and learning throughout the district.

Amigos K-8

Ana Sanchez

Ana Sanchez (she/her) is the Biliteracy Coach at the Amigos School. Ana supports Amigos teachers in developing and refining their data-driven teaching practices in the areas of literacy and language arts (in English and Spanish). She also partners with coaches, interventionists and the Amigos leadership team to analyze school-wide data and implement initiatives that support our students’ progress in their bilingual literacy development. Prior to her role as a Biliteracy Coach, Ana was a Kindergarten classroom teacher. Outside of school, Ana enjoys spending time with her family and take photos on film. Amigos K-8

Caroline Butler-Rahman

Caroline Butler-Rahman (she/her) is the Dual Language Instructional Coach at the Amigos School in Cambridge Public Schools. In partnership with Amigos coaches (Biliteracy and Math), educators and administrators, Caroline develops and adapts curriculum to support teaching and learning centered in best practices for dual language and leads Amigos-based professional learning. Caroline taught 6th and 7th grade Spanish Language Arts at Amigos for 11 years prior to becoming the Dual Language Instructional Coach is SY2010. Her two college-aged daughters are graduates of the Amigos School and CRLS. (Thank you CPS for giving my kids an amazing education!) Caroline enjoys traveling near and far, getting lost in reading, long walks/hikes, and floating in the sea.

Baldwin

Summer Thompson

Summer Thompson (she/her) is the Literacy Coach at the Maria L. Baldwin School. In partnership with classroom educators and specialists, Summer collaborates on curriculum, instruction, and intervention for the K-5 scholars at the Baldwin School. Summer received her Master of Education in Reading from Salem State University as well as her Master of Elementary Education from Lesley University. Prior to this role, Summer was a second and third grade teacher at the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. School in Cambridge for 12 years. Summer is the mother of a daughter and son, as well as two kittens and a dog. She enjoys attending her daughter’s basketball games, swimming, and reading. Cambridgeport

Abigail Frost

Abi Frost (she/her) is the Literacy Coach at the Cambridgeport School.  She partners with teachers to design and implement literacy instruction that challenges and engages all students. She prioritizes celebrating and elevating student and teacher success and enjoys the great collaboration at her school. Prior to CPS, she studied language and literacy, taught in Boston for ten years, including as a reading specialist, and was a literacy coach in Chelsea. She enjoys spending time with her husband and elementary age children, traveling, taking care of her garden, reading, and skiing all winter. Abi can be reached at afrost@cpsd.us.

Cambridge Street Upper

Roxy Archibald

Roxy Archibald (she/her) is the literacy coach at CSUS. Prior to joining CPS in SY2023, Roxy served as a coach and teacher in Chelsea Public Schools. Roxy strives to be a supportive thought-partner, facilitator of ideas, and valued leader through coaching. Roxy is a mother of identical twin girls! She enjoys spending time with her family, traveling, group workout classes and of course, reading. Roxy can be reached at rarchibald@cpsd.us.

FMA

Patricia Duggan

Patricia Duggan is currently an Instructional Coach for Cambridge Public Schools. She has held this school-based role at the Fletcher Maynard Academy for over 15 years, working with teachers in grades PK-5 to support their ongoing professional growth and learning, both as individuals and as members of grade level teams. As an instructional coach, Patricia guides the implementation of MTSS, analyzes and utilizes data to monitor student progress, and coordinates instruction. As part of her role, Patricia organizes assessment training for teachers, assessment scheduling, implementation and reporting. She is a member of the school’s Instructional Leadership Team that plans and facilitates meetings and after-school professional development sessions to build teacher capacity and effectiveness. Patricia has over 20 years of elementary and middle school education experience, holding various positions as a classroom teacher, special educator and as a Reading Specialist. 

Graham & Parks 

Erin Garcia

Erin Garcia (she/her) serves as the Literacy Coach at the Graham and Parks School. With a background of 10 years as a classroom teacher, Erin is deeply committed to continued learning to best support educators with research-based instructional strategies. Her primary goal this year is to assist educators in effectively using data to inform their instruction and ensure that every student receives strong Tier I instruction. In her free time, Erin, a mother of three beautiful redheaded children, enjoys bike rides, reading at the beach, and quality moments with friends and family. Haggerty

Suzanne Russell

Suzanne Russell (she/her) is the Literacy Coach at the Haggerty School. She has been an educator in Cambridge for 30 years. Suzanne started her career as an ESL educator at the M.L. King Jr. School and has held a variety of teaching roles including teaching in grades 1-6.  In her current role as a Literacy coach, Suzanne engages in on-going planning, teaching and reflection cycles with her colleagues to ensure high interest, high quality and effective literacy instruction for every student at the Haggerty School.

Kennedy Longfellow 

Nathalie Ais

Nathalie Ais (she/her) is the Literacy Coach at the Kennedy Longfellow School. Outside of being a literacy coach, she is also a public speaking coach.She is an outgoing and energetic person who loves learning new things and engaging in thoughtful conversation. She's a health & fitness enthusiast and a former middle and high school English teacher. Nathalie is passionate about the power of teaching and literacy.

King (MLK)

Kelly Petitt

Kelly Petitt (she/her) has been the literacy coach at the Martin Luther King, Jr. School since 2014. Kelly collaborates with teachers in data-informed coaching cycles designed to raise the achievement of King School scholars, and she partners with fellow coaches within and across departments to facilitate professional learning. Prior to becoming the literacy coach, Kelly was a classroom teacher at MLK for seven years and in the Chicago Public Schools for four. Among her proudest achievements are being a 2011 Massachusetts Teacher of the Year finalist, a mom to her son Theo, and a two time American Crossword Puzzle Tournament Best Handwriting champion. King Open 

Jaenine Cortazar

Jaenine Cortazar has been working at the King Open School since 2015 as the Literacy Coach. Prior to working in CPS, Jaenine spent time working as a Reading Specialist for grades 3-6, and has also been a classroom teacher for both 2nd and 3rd grade. Jaenine has a passion for adult learning and collaborating with colleagues. Outside of school, Jaenine enjoys spending time with her son Lance Jr., daughter Lucia, dog Cookie, and husband Lance. 

Morse

Natalie Dean

Natalie Dean (she/her) is the Literacy Coach at Morse School. She strives to partner with educators in their shared commitment to recognize students’ strengths and interests, identify their needs, and align instruction to be responsive, engaging, and inclusive. Natalie’s first teaching role was at a nature center in Austin, TX. She has since taught as a museum educator, a classroom teacher, and an adjunct for graduate students in New York City, Barcelona, and Brookline. Natalie enjoys time with friends and family, making pottery, walking in nature with her dog, and traveling, especially, with her daughter and husband. Natalie can be reached at ndean@cpsd.us

Peabody

Traci Vecchiarello

Traci Vecchiarello (she/her) is an Instructional Literacy Coach in Cambridge Public Schools. In partnership with her school and department colleagues, Traci promotes district-led literacy initiatives and supports teachers and staff to deliver evidence-based and data-informed instruction that is responsive to all CPS students. Traci has worked for CPS since 1999. She began her career as a fifth grade teacher. After being trained as a certified Literacy Coach and completing her Reading Specialist licensure program, Traci worked as a Title One Reading Interventionist before becoming a Literacy Coach 14 years ago. Traci is the grateful mother of four children, one dog, and one cat. Traci enjoys spending time with her family and friends, cheering from the sidelines of her kids’ sporting events, relaxing at the beach, and traveling.

Putnam Ave. Upper

Alison Swigut

Alison Swigut (she/her) is the Literacy Coach at Putnam Avenue Upper School. She works alongside teachers and administrators to support the implementation of effective instruction and intervention programming in order to meet students' diverse needs. Prior to joining Cambridge Public Schools, Alison served as an educator in Somerville Public Schools. She is the proud mother of a toddler, and she enjoys spending time with her family, reading and traveling. Alison can be reached at aswigut@cpsd.us.

Rindge Ave. Upper

Emma Weinreich

Emma Weinreich is the Literacy Coach at Rindge Avenue Upper School. She has been at RAUC for 3 years as a literacy specialist, and she will continue to design and implement small group instruction. As Literacy Coach, Emma will also partner with teachers to support curriculum development, facilitate data collection and analysis, and continue RAUC's mission to provide meaningful and joyful literacy instruction for all learners. Tobin

Heather Kolbe

Heather Kolbe (she/her) is the Literacy Coach at the Tobin Montessori School. She has worked in education for over 20 years as a classroom teacher, reading specialist and instructional coach at all levels  - high school, middle school and elementary. With a deep rooted belief in the power of literacy to change lives, Heather collaborates and partners with classroom teachers, fellow coaches and school and district leaders to align research-based best practices in culturally responsive, data-driven literacy instruction with Montessori philosophy and pedagogy at the Tobin School. Vassal Lane Upper School

Sarah Foleno

Sarah Foleno (she/her) is the Literacy Coach at the Vassal Lane Upper School. Through instructional leadership, professional learning, and coaching, Sarah partners with educators to design, strengthen, and refine instructional practices to meet student learning goals.
