Day 1 Goals: Explore Topics

AGENDA

  1. Conduct background research on the topics of your choice.
      • Narrow choices to 2 possible topics and complete the "Research Exploration" handout. Highlight the topic you most want to research and create a comment that says, "This topic is my first choice." (45 min)
      • Search the Library Catalog for books.
      • Search the Library Databases by Subject for articles, videos, etc. **IMPORTANT** To access the databases off school campus, you will need to enter the required passwords. Please visit the Passwords page and follow the instructions.

DAY 1 HOMEWORK:

  1. Read and watch these resources on using NoodleTools:
  2. Log into NoodleTools, create a new project (Citation Style = MLA; Level = Advanced), share the new project with Mr. Landwehr's inbox for your class period (Landwehr # Per. Fall '19 Constitution Project).

Day 2 Goals: Locate, Cite, and Annotate Sources

AGENDA

  1. Review Day 1 homework and Guiding Research Questions (5 min)
  2. Citing database sources in NoodleTools and tagging them as primary or secondary (5 min)
  3. Cite a website and a database on your issue or Amendment (15 min)
  4. Annotate sources in NoodleTools (10 min). Only annotate the first 3 sources you cite!
  5. Locate credible evidence to support your guiding research questions. Use the C.R.A.P. Test when evaluating a source's credibility and appropriateness for research (5 min)
  6. Cite and annotate sources in Noodle Tools (30 min).

DAY 2 HOMEWORK

  1. Watch this video on using NoodleTools:

Day 3 Goals: Take Notes

  2. Connect evidence to Guiding Research questions in “My Ideas” section of Noodletools notecard (15 minutes)
  3. Create at least one complete note in NoodleTools (title, quotation, paraphrase, My Ideas) with evidence that connects to one of the Guiding Research Questions. Continue to cite, annotate (only your first 3 sources), and take notes (60 min)

DAY 3 HOMEWORK

Continue to locate, cite, and take notes on sources that connect to research questions. Finish annotating your first 3 sources. The annotations are due Friday.

Day 4 Goals: Locate Primary Sources

DAY 4 HOMEWORK

  • Review these Note Taking Tips. If you want to create notecard piles or color/tag your notes, use these NoodleTools guides.
  • Continue to locate, cite, and take notes on sources that connect to research questions.

Day 5 Goals: Write a Thesis Statement

AGENDA

  1. Begin a "working" thesis and type it into the Noodle Tools Dashboard (20 min)
  2. Add the draft of your thesis statement on the dashboard tab of your NoodleTools project. Locate, cite, and take notes on sources that connect to research questions. (60 min)

DAY 5 HOMEWORK

  • Complete the draft of your thesis statement in NoodleTools.
  • Continue to locate, cite, and take notes on sources that connect to research questions.

Day 6 Goals: Create In-Text Citations

AGENDA

  1. Review In-text (parenthetical) citations in NoodleTools (10 min)
  2. Update the in-text citation in the direct quotation and paraphrase sections on each notecard you have created in NoodleTools. Locate, cite, and take notes on sources that connect to your research questions. (70 min)
