CRLS Summer Reading 2020

Reading and Listening for Comfort and Community

Summer Reading Expectations:

Choose - Read - Listen - Share

Each student will choose 3-5 titles (books, audiobooks, ebooks, or podcasts) in any language to read or listen to that will bring them comfort and community. In the fall, they will share reflections about their reading experience during our community-wide discussion.

Summer Reading Letter to CRLS Families

(Also available in Spanish, Haitian Creole, and Amharic)

Every student will receive 1 print book to read, enjoy, and keep!

  • Students will choose 1 of these five high quality print titles

  1. The Way You Make Me Feel: Find comfort in a laugh out loud story about love, new friendships, and a summer that doesn’t go as planned.

  2. Six of Crows: A magical thriller where six dangerous outcasts take on an impossible heist that could make them rich beyond their wildest dreams -- if they don’t kill each other first.

  3. New Kid: A humorous and heartbreaking story about a boy discovering his identity as he navigates the path between his neighborhood community and his new school.

  4. Breaking Glass: This reimagining of Harley Quinn’s origin story finds her facing a difficult choice: campaign to make her neighborhood a better place to live, or join The Joker, who plans to take down Gotham one corporation at a time.

  5. Rising Above: Dive into the inspirational, real-life stories of superstar athletes like Lebron James, Stephen Curry, and Tim Howard to learn how their perseverance and passion paid off.
