The role of a TA in the program is to be an assistant in the classroom environment, but more specifically they provide extra supports for struggling students, and extra pushes for students ready for extension. Oftentimes educators are challenged with the responsibility of supporting all students, leaving them to be overlooked, so to combat the disparities, TAs are here to close that gap effectively.
Work with their supervising educator to develop goals and classroom routines, and monitor progress throughout the semester;
Assist their TA advisor with a variety of classroom duties (see above);
Complete all weekly reflections and attend all required TA meetings;
Maintain a professional and responsible demeanor in the classroom;
Take initiative over their learning; and
Teach a complete lesson.
All level Up TAs will be assigned reflections to complete throughout the semester to better reflect and understand the role. This is an important practice helping to measure your growth over the semester. Below are some examples of what potential reflections could look like.
