APPLICATIONS OPEN ON MAY 2, 2022 - APPLY HERE: https://www.dmsf.org/aspiring-scholars.html
DUE OCTOBER 3, 2022
Looking for students with strong academic potential (A’s and B’s on their report cards from 6th and 7th grade as well as strong test scores), their character (based on school and community involvement, essay responses, and recommendations), and financial need (families must make no more than $75,000/year). Families must also be eligible for financial aid from the school they wish to apply to and be able to upload financial information to the application.
The scholarship covers $2,500-$3,500 of tuition each year; students who receive the Daniel Murphy scholarship also tend to receive financial aid from the school they wish to attend, but families may be responsible for covering some of the cost of attendance. Student must attend one of their partner schools.
Application requires students to answer several short-answer questions and two essays. Parents/guardians must answer several short questions and provide financial information for all parents/guardians. Recommendation letters are required from the student’s 7t grade ELA teacher, 7th grade Math teacher, and the student’s principal or school counselor.
After applications are reviewed, some students and their families move to the interview round. The student will meet with two or three groups of people alone, then their families will meet with the groups, and finally both the student and their family will meet with a member of the Scholarship Fund Education Department.
Students will be notified if they received the scholarship within two weeks of interviewing.
