Hi, I'm Ms. Konz. I have been an art teacher with CPS for 16 years and this is my 10th year at Simeon Career Academy.

I love art and became an art teacher to share my love of art and creating with students. I want my students to walk away from art class with a better understanding of why humans make art, why art is a powerful, visual communication tool and sometimes just makes life more interesting. (see some of my art below)

I attended both Southern Illinois University in Carbondale and University of Illinois Chicago to get my BFA in Photography and Northern Illinois University to get my master's degree in Art Education. After student teaching for elementary art and high school art in CPS I accepted a position at Robeson High School in Englewood where I taught a variety of different art classes, oversaw a few murals and even was the assistant coach for the girl's softball team for two seasons. After 6 wonderful years with my Robeson family I accepted an offer to work at Simeon and gladly became a Wolverine.

I love to travel and have been lucky enough to visit numerous countries and I love visiting famous art museums around the world, taking my own photos along the way. This summer has been challenging with all of the travel restrictions due to COVID but I am looking forward to the world opening up again soon. I live on the far northwest side of Chicago with my boyfriend and my dog Zoey where we eat lots of pizza and tacos...

My personal art is usually photography; I recently had a collaborative art show at Gallery Cafe in Chicago with a good friend and fellow artist. I displayed several of these photos and the other artist made several paintings inspired by them and then we worked together to select several of my photos for her to paint on top of for an interesting mix of paint and photography, merging our styles.
