Over the past 3 years, a group of pediatric residents established an organization at Lurie called TeenDoc. TeenDoc is a mentorship program that allows residents to live out Lurie's anti-racism mission by addressing the glaring underrepresentation of minority healthcare providers both in our community and around the country. To do this, we pair our resident physicians with rising CPS high school students interested in healthcare-related careers, providing mentorship and career guidance monthly to students who identify as under-represented minorities in medicine. During the past year, we organized monthly in-person sessions with a variety of healthcare providers including surgical subspecialties, Pediatrics, Emergency Medicine, Psychiatry, Adolescent Medicine, and more. These sessions have all been in person at Lurie Children's Hospital. We do not have footage from in-person sessions, but this email includes video from 2021-2022's virtual sessions.
With the upcoming school year quickly approaching, we're reaching out to recruit our next set of students. As I mentioned above, we're looking for high school sophomores, juniors, or seniors, with an added focus on college applications and professional development as the students get closer to high school graduation and college. I've attached our handout via the PDF provided, which includes a QR code for students to access our interest form, which we will use to send applications out later this month.
