GOALS
1) Curate and maintain a relevant and entertaining selection of fiction materials.
2) Curate and maintain nonfiction materials that are up-to-date and reliable.
3) Foster a love for reading.
4) Support subject-area teachers' curriculums through physical and digital resources.
POLICIES
The librarian at King College Prep assumes final responsibility for material selection.
Students and staff may recommend titles for purchase. If the material aligns with the collection development standards, the librarian will try to purchase these items.
Criteria For Selection
High standards of quality in grammatical and literary structure.
High standards of quality in the portrayal of fiction and nonfiction themes and subject matters.
This standard of quality will reflect and take into consideration the lived experiences of all King College Prep students, including their age, social-emotional development, and ability level.
High standards of quality in materials containing controversial topics for the development of every individual's analytical, rhetorical, and critical (thinking) skills.
NOTE: "High standards of quality" reflects the American Library Association's guides & philosophy for collection development, the standards of the American Association of School Libraries (AASL), the Association of Illinois School Library Educators (AISLE), School Library Journal, Booklist Reviews, and the Bulletin of the Center for Children's Books.
Donation Policy
The library is grateful for your support and accepts donations per the librarian's discretion.
Not all donations will be catalogued into our collection. (See our Criteria for Selection for more details.)
