Yes, you can request to change your Associate’s Degree Pathway at the end of a semester. You may not change your degree pathway in the middle of a semester or after Junior year. Students are not permitted to take courses that are not required for their degree. Please note that changing your degree pathway may delay your ability to graduate with your Associate’s Degree.
Fall testing takes place in October/November
Spring testing takes place in April/May
Summer testing takes place in July/August
There are two separate Early College entrance exams; ALEKS (Math), and RTW (English). Students are encouraged to take the test they feel most confident in on the first testing day, and take the other test on the second testing day.
Students can start taking college-level classes as early as the second semester of their Sophomore year once eligible. Passing just 1 of the exams will gain entrance into the early college program, however, in order to be able to take all classes and complete an Associate's degree, students must eventually take and pass both tests. Students cannot start taking classes at the KKC campus until the summer after their Sophomore year when they are rising Juniors.
All students have the choice to take up to two summer classes each summer while in the Early College program. Taking summer classes can lighten your student’s load of classes come to Junior/Senior Year, although it is not mandatory. Taking summer classes is strongly encouraged if your student is interested in finishing the Associate’s Degree.
According to Chicago City College's policy for early college, if a student fails or is withdrawn from an early college course they will not be able to continue the program without first retaking that course via out-of-pocket expense.
Parents have to sign a Dual Enrollment paper every semester to ensure the student can attend Daley. They also have to ensure their student is on time for school every day so the student’s attendance rate does to drop below the required 90% rate.
Other than those 2 responsibilities the parent has no responsibility, they don't have to pay for anything because all classes are paid for even transportation to and from Daley. Students are allowed to eat at Daley for lunch but the lunches are not paid for if off of Goode's campus.
Students can take the ALEKS (Math) 5 times per year and the RTW (English) once every semester.
Students are encouraged to take the shuttle bus provided by ESHS to and from KKC. They can also drive themselves if they have the proper license, car insurance, and signed paperwork turned in.
Students will have to get to KKC on their own. The shuttle bus only runs when CPS is in session.
You can talk to your student's counselor at Englewood STEM HS. They will be able to tell you how many classes your student has left for graduation. Counselors are assigned by the student's Grade Level. Click here for CPS Graduation Requirements Website.
