Description:
This entry-level course is designed for students with a female vocal range (soprano or alto) interested in learning to sing in a chorus (large group). Students will learn proper vocal technique, how to sing on pitch and blend their voices with others, and how to read and perform written sheet music. The chorus will sing music from a variety of different styles, genres, and time periods. Assignments and assessments include a combination of performance-based and written work. Students will perform in one after-school concert each semester.

In this course, students will further develop their vocal skills and theoretical musical knowledge. Students will gain greater independence as singers, performing three- and four-part musical repertoire from a variety of different styles, genres, and time periods. Ear training, sight-reading, and vocal technique will be strongly emphasized. Assignments and assessments include a combination of performance-based and written work. Students will perform in one after-school concert each semester, as well as additional out-of-school opportunities and field trips.

Description:
This year-long course is designed to provide students with the opportunity to continue to analyze music and make informed judgments on the basis of form, content, and technique creativity. Emphasis is placed on the ability to describe the characteristics of music from various cultures and traditions. Honors credit may be earned with extra classroom responsibilities, performance opportunities, increased music theory instruction, and/or other opportunities at director discretion. As a prerequisite to take this course, a student must have Teacher Recommendation based on audition.

The Lyric Opera of Chicago's High School Residency Program provides a teaching artist year-round to support our students vocal development. Plus, we get to attend an opera performance downtown and participate in the annual ChoralFest!
Music of the Baroque's Strong Voices Program provides in-school private vocal lessons to select Choir students, not to mention unique opportunities to join professionals on stage for choral concerts throughout the year.
ArtSmart brings a teaching artist to Curie each week to teach private vocal lessons for select students (application/audition required).
