Who is included in the school-based crisis team?
The composition of a School-Based Crisis Team can vary based on factors such as school size, specific needs, and available staff. Generally, a crisis team includes key school personnel such as the principal, assistant principal(s), counselor, social worker, psychologist, nurse, and security officer(s).
Duties of the School-Based Crisis Team
Assess the nature of the crisis
Identify affected staff and student population
Inform affected population and/or school community of the crisis, as needed
Identify counseling needs of the affected population
Assign follow-up for highly affected students
Provide referrals for outpatient services, as needed
Debrief following crisis
