My love for this work began at Prescott College, where I graduated in 2018 with a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and Human Development. During my undergraduate years, I took interest in learning about how our individual identities are formed and the influence various social, structural, and environmental factors have in shaping development. Driven by a passion for social justice and a desire to help young minds flourish, I chose to continue my academic journey at Roosevelt University. In May 2023, I successfully completed my Master's of Arts in School Counseling, a transformative experience that equipped me with the latest techniques and theories in the field of counseling. My graduate studies have further instilled in me a commitment to promoting inclusivity, emotional well-being, and academic success among students.
During my final year at Roosevelt University, I had the privilege of interning at Roberto Clemente Community Academy, where I worked closely with diverse student populations and further honed my counseling skills. One of the highlights of my time at Roberto Clemente Community Academy was leading a dynamic and supportive gay-straight alliance group. Creating a safe and inclusive space for students to express themselves and build meaningful connections was both rewarding and empowering.Â
As a school counselor, my primary goal is to empower all students to overcome obstacles, explore their potential, and achieve personal and academic growth. I believe in fostering a non-judgmental and compassionate space where students feel comfortable expressing their thoughts and feelings. Through active listening, empathy, and evidence-based counseling techniques, I aim to guide students in developing effective coping strategies and problem-solving skills. With a theoretical background in Gestalt theory, I bring a unique perspective to my counseling practice. Gestalt is a holistic and experiential form of counseling that emphasizes the importance of being present in the moment, exploring emotions, and embracing the whole self. Using Gestalt theory as my foundation, I encourage students to embrace their true selves, explore their emotions, and develop self-awareness to create positive change in their lives.
