The nomination period to become a member of our school’s Appointed Local School Council (ALSC) is open now until 9/17/26! Submit your nomination form at www.cps.edu/about/local-school-councils/lsc-vacancies. Print a copy and bring it to your school, along with 2 forms of ID, by 9/17/26 (3 pm).
Overview & Responsibilities: Appointed Local School Councils (ALSCs) help govern Chicago Public Schools. Council duties include approving the school improvement plan and budget, conducting principal evaluations, recommending contract principal candidates, and providing general oversight. Parents, community members, advocates, staff, and students are encouraged to run.
Candidate Eligibility Requirements: Candidates can’t be related to the principal or employed by a third-party contractor at the school where they would serve.
Parents: Must have a child enrolled at the school on the day the nomination form is submitted and cannot be employed by the Chicago Board of Education
Community Members: Must be at least 17 years old, live within the school's attendance area or voting district, have no children enrolled at the school, and cannot be employed by the Board of Education
Advocates: Must be at least 18 years old, have relevant expertise aligned with the school's mission, have no children enrolled at the school, and cannot be employed by the Board of Education. Residency in Chicago is not required.
Teachers: Must be full-time CPS employees, staffed in a position that requires a teaching certificate, and assigned to work more than half the time at the school (3 or more days).
Next Steps: All candidates must submit, in person, a printed copy of the Electronic Nomination Packet and 2 forms of ID to the school by 9/17/2026 (3 pm). Community members must show an ID showing a home address in Chicago.
Timeline:
By 9/17/26 (3 pm): Complete online nomination forms, print, and submit to the school with 2 forms of ID.
9/23/26-9/26/26: Public candidate forum (exact dates are set by the ALSC).
9/30/26-10/2/26: Nonbinding staff and student polls
10/1/26-10/6/26: Certification of Results & parent/community/advocate member recommendations
12/1/26: New ALSC term begins
