This week, students will select their topic for their iSearch research project this quarter. Students will then craft a strong research question using the following criteria: it is researchable; it allows for judgment and various perspectives; it simple; and it is specific. Once students have their research questions, they will begin the research process by beginning their annotated bibliographies in which they’ll be gathering notes from credible sources they find during their research. You can support your student by asking them what topic they chose for this final research project, and why.

This week, our schedule looks a little different due to IAR testing. As a result, students will meet for Social Studies only three times. However, we are making the most of that time by focusing on a vital part of our school community: The Cultivate Survey. The Cultivate Survey is a platform for our students to share their authentic experiences and perspectives. We believe that student voice should be a driving force behind the decisions we make. The data we collect helps us pinpoint what is working well in our classrooms, recognize areas where we can better support student well-being, and use direct feedback to shape school climate and engagement strategies. In Social Studies this week, students will explore the direct link between this survey and civic participation. To make this process meaningful, our lessons this week will follow a clear path from discussion to action. We’ll start by asking the students a tough question: Does your feedback actually make a difference? We want to hear their honest thoughts on whether surveys feel like "just a form" or a real tool for change. Next, we’ll get transparent. Students will examine our school’s actual results from last year. We will identify trends together and show them exactly how their 2025 feedback led to specific changes and improvements they see in the building today. Students will then analyze data sets to see the connection between information and influence. This aligns with our civic goals, teaching them that in both a school and a democracy, data-informed decisions are the key to elevating community voices. To wrap up the week, students will take the 2026 Cultivate Survey. They will understand that their answers aren't just disappearing into a database, they are directly shaping the goals we set and the school environment we build together. You can support your student's learning at home by asking them what trends they noticed in last year's school data and discussing one thing they would like to see change or stay the same in our school community this year.
